(tarabilla [tarapíja], of disputed etymology. It may derive from traba 'tie, bond, or fastener' < Latin trabam 'beam or log' plus the diminutive -illa)
   Glossed by Adams and Blevins as a wooden hand tool for spinning thread in the making of cinches or girths. Santamaría concurs, noting that the instrument is used to twist horsehair or other fibers for halters and reins as well as cinches.
